Edo Queens Face USFA in WAFU B Women’s Champions League Semi-Final

Nigeria’s Edo Queens will face hosts USFA of Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifiers on Wednesday, September 2, with a place in the final and a step closer to continental qualification at stake, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian champions secured their place in the last four after an impressive group-stage campaign in Ouagadougou, where they recorded victories over AS Garde Nationale of Niger and Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in their final Group B fixture.

Despite the setback, Edo Queens finished second in Group B and enter the semi-final with the tournament’s most prolific attack, having scored 11 goals in three matches.

Their opponents, USFA, have been equally impressive but in a contrasting manner.

The Burkinabe champions completed the group stage unbeaten and without conceding a goal. They opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory over FC Dynamique before crushing ASKO de Kara 5-0 to finish top of Group A with a perfect defensive record.

The semi-final therefore presents an intriguing battle between Edo Queens’ attacking firepower and USFA’s defensive resilience.

Edo Queens will be counting on the goalscoring ability of Esther Moses and Doosuur Anastasia, who are among the leading scorers in the competition. Moses produced a hat-trick in the 7-0 demolition of AS Garde Nationale, while Doosuur has also found the net three times.

The Nigerian side also boasts promising teenager Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who scored and provided an assist in the 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas and has emerged as one of the standout young players of the tournament.

USFA, meanwhile, will draw confidence from their defensive organisation and home support. The hosts have scored eight goals without conceding in their two matches, underlining the scale of the challenge facing Edo Queens.

For Edo Queens interim coach Kennedy Boboye, the defeat to Ampem Darkoa provides an opportunity for his side to respond strongly when it matters most.

The Nigerian champions had taken an early lead against Ampem Darkoa through Doosuur before the Ghanaian side fought back after the interval to claim a 2-1 victory and finish top of the group.

With only one match separating the teams from the final, Edo Queens must rediscover the attacking efficiency that saw them score 10 goals in their opening two matches while finding a way through a USFA defence yet to be breached.

The winner will advance to the WAFU B final and move one step closer to securing the zone’s ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament. CAF has confirmed that the winners of the six zonal qualifying competitions will join defending champions AS FAR and the host representative at the continental final tournament.

The other semi-final pits unbeaten Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies against FC Dynamique of Benin.

For Edo Queens, Wednesday’s encounter represents an opportunity to turn their impressive group-stage campaign into a historic continental qualification. But standing in their way is a USFA side that has yet to concede a goal and will have the advantage of playing on home soil.
