Edo Queens Go Top As Nasarawa Amazons Suffer First Defeat In NWFL Super Six

 The race for the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six title took a dramatic turn on Wednesday as Edo Queens climbed to the top of the standings following Matchday Three, while Nasarawa Amazons suffered their first defeat of the playoffs, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

With all three fixtures producing significant consequences in the battle for the championship, the race remains finely balanced heading into the decisive stages of the competition in Port Harcourt.

Edo Queens produced a commanding performance to defeat Abia Angels 6-2 and move to the summit of the Super Six table.

The Benin City side wasted little time asserting their dominance, with Chioma Moses opening the scoring in the third minute before delivering a sensational four-goal display. Precious Oscar and Atume Doosuur also found the back of the net in an attacking masterclass from Moses Aduku’s side.

Abia Angels responded through Mariam Abdulrasheed and Blessing Saleh, but they struggled to cope with the relentless pressure from Edo Queens, who remained in control throughout the contest.

The victory, Edo Queens’ second in three playoff matches, lifted them to six points and strengthened their pursuit of a second NWFL title.

Defending champions Bayelsa Queens kept their title defence on course with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over hosts Rivers Angels.

Chiamaka Ezekwugo handed the Prosperity Girls the lead shortly before the half-hour mark with a powerful header. Rivers Angels fought back after the break and drew level in the 58th minute when Abasiofon Uwah converted from the penalty spot.

Bayelsa Queens, however, restored their advantage just five minutes later through Dorshima Taarnum, whose decisive strike proved enough to earn all three points.

The result moved Bayelsa Queens into third place on the table with four points from three matches, keeping them firmly in contention for the title.

FC Robo Queens reignited their championship ambitions with an impressive 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Nasarawa Amazons.

After opening the playoffs with back-to-back defeats, the Lagos-based side delivered one of their most disciplined performances of the season. Their persistence paid off in the second half as Opeyemi Ajakaye and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi struck within a five-minute spell to secure a crucial win.

The defeat denied Nasarawa Amazons the opportunity to establish a clear lead at the top of the standings and further intensified the race for the championships.

Wednesday’s results have significantly reshaped the Super Six standings, with Edo Queens now occupying first place while Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels remain firmly in the hunt.

For FC Robo Queens, the victory offers renewed hope after a difficult start to the playoffs, ensuring they remain within touching distance of the leading contenders.

With the competition entering its decisive phase, the battle to be crowned NWFL champions remains wide open as the six teams continue their quest for domestic glory in Port Harcourt.
