England Legend Urges NFF To Improve National Team Appeal
Sampson Adedeji
Former Chelsea forward Eni Aluko has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to improve the competitiveness, organization, and overall appeal of Nigerian football to attract dual-nationality players, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In a recent interview on Spotify, Aluko emphasized the need for the NFF to take proactive steps to convince top-tier players to choose Nigeria over other nations.
“England is England. Players who grow up here and end up playing for their country of heritage often do so because they feel they won’t have a career with England it becomes a default choice, which it shouldn’t be,” Aluko said.
“The responsibility lies with the country to make that option attractive. There are still issues to resolve in terms of organization, investment, and professionalism,” she added.
Aluko stressed that the Nigerian football system must evolve to become a “competitive choice” for players eligible to represent more than one country.
While Aluko played for England’s Lionesses at international level, her brother Sone Aluko featured for the Super Eagles.
