Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has commended the influence of coach Eric Chelle on the Nigerian national team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Despite a challenging start to the just-concluded World Cup qualifiers, Chelle successfully guided Nigeria to the playoff stage.

Speaking with SuperSport, the former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper lauded the positive transformation under the French-born tactician.

“Since Eric Chelle came in, there have been a lot of changes, and the players are stepping up,” Akpeyi noted.

Chelle, who assumed duty earlier this year, faced heavy criticism during the qualifiers as the team struggled for consistency.

However, Nigeria’s emphatic victory over Benin Republic helped restore confidence, with many attributing the turnaround to Chelle’s tactical discipline and player management.

The Super Eagles finished second in Group C with 17 points me just one behind South Africa and will now contest a two-legged playoff for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
