FIBA Confirms Nigeria, Three Others For 2026 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

The semifinalists of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket—Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Sudan—have officially qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments, BSNSports.com.ng reports 

Despite strong early performances, group winners Uganda and Côte d'Ivoire were eliminated in the quarterfinals and missed out on qualification. In contrast, Senegal—Group C runners-up—and South Sudan, who finished bottom of Group B, defied expectations to advance to the final four and, with it, earned their places in the global qualifiers.

The four African teams will join 20 other national sides at the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments in March 2026. These four tournaments, each featuring six teams, will determine the final 16 nations that will compete at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany later that year.

Global Contenders Set for Qualifiers

From the Americas, Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Colombia have booked their qualifying tournament slots.

Asia and Oceania will be represented by Japan, China, Korea, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Australia.

Europe’s contingent includes tournament host Germany, alongside the Czech Republic, Hungary, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and Turkey.

The 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will be held in Germany, where the world's top women's teams will battle for basketball supremacy.
