The FIFA is reportedly exploring a new regulation that could significantly reshape team selection policies across domestic leagues, including Nigeria’s top-flight clubs, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The proposed rule would require clubs to give greater opportunities to young academy graduates by mandating the inclusion of at least one youth player in the starting lineup of competitive matches.

Key elements under consideration include:

• The selected player must be developed within the club’s own academy system

• Clubs would be discouraged from relying solely on high-cost external signings, with a stronger emphasis placed on internal player development
