Fact Check: Viral Document Claiming CAS Awarded 2025 AFCON Title To Senegal Is Fake

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has not officially declared Senegal winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), contrary to claims circulating on social media, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A document recently shared online alleging that CAS had overturned the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision has been verified as forged. CAS has not issued any ruling reversing CAF's verdict or awarding the title to Senegal.

The controversy stems from the 2025 AFCON final, in which Senegal initially emerged victorious on the pitch. However, CAF's Appeal Board ruled in March 2026 that Senegal had forfeited the match after the team walked off the field during a protest over a controversial penalty decision.

As a result, CAF awarded Morocco a 3–0 victory by forfeit and officially recognized the Atlas Lions as champions of the 2025 AFCON.

Senegal subsequently appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in March 2026, seeking to overturn CAF's ruling.

CAS has confirmed receiving the appeal but has not yet delivered a final judgment. Until the court issues its decision, CAF's ruling remains in force, meaning Morocco continues to be recognized as the official 2025 AFCON champions.

The legal proceedings remain ongoing, and no final decision has been announced by CAS regarding Senegal's appeal.
