Five-Day Marathon Expo To Kick Off Enugu City Race Week

With eight days to the second Enugu City International Marathon, organisers have announced a five-day Marathon Expo scheduled to hold from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2026, at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Expo will serve as the official build-up to race day on Saturday, August 29, bringing together athletes, sponsors, government officials, running enthusiasts and members of the public for a week of sporting activities and entertainment.

Michael Okpara Square will also serve as the official kit collection centre for participants registered for the 42km elite marathon and 10km fun run.

During the five-day period, runners are expected to collect their race bibs, timing chips and official race kits ahead of the competition.

Beyond registration and race preparations, organisers said the Expo will feature sponsor activations and brand showcases, health and wellness exhibitions, sports merchandise, local vendor displays, fan zones, entertainment and cultural presentations.

“The Marathon Expo is where the spirit of the race comes alive,” a spokesperson for Nilayo Sports Management said.

“For five days, Michael Okpara Square will be the meeting point for athletes preparing to compete and for the people of Enugu to connect with the energy of a world-class sporting event.”

The event, supported by the Enugu State Government, is also expected to provide an economic boost for local businesses, artisans and hospitality operators through increased visitor traffic during marathon week.

Organisers said the Expo will be open daily and admission will be free.

The build-up will continue with the Enugu City International Marathon World Press Conference scheduled for Thursday, August 28, where organisers are expected to provide updates on final race logistics, security arrangements and prize details.

Race Day

The 2026 Enugu City International Marathon will take place on Saturday, August 29.

- 42km Elite Marathon: 6:30 a.m. — Flag-off at ShopRite, Abakaliki Road

- 10km Fun Run: 8:30 a.m. — Start at Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road, with the finish at Opara Square

With the Expo programme now confirmed, Enugu is set for five days of sporting activity, entertainment and community engagement ahead of the second edition of the city’s international marathon.
