Football Federation Confirms Owing National Team Coach Eight Months’ Salaries

The Libyan Football Federation has confirmed that national team head coach Aliou Cissé and his technical crew are owed eight months’ salaries due to financial constraints, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement, the federation admitted that the delay in payment was caused by a “lack of funds,” raising fresh concerns over administrative and financial stability within the country’s football structure.

Cissé, who took charge of the Mediterranean Knights with high expectations, has reportedly continued his duties despite the prolonged salary backlog.

 However, the situation has cast a shadow over preparations and the overall morale within the national team setup.

The development has also reignited debate across the continent, as similar issues have surfaced in other African football federations.

 In several cases, federations have been accused of offering lucrative contracts to high-profile coaches without the financial capacity to consistently meet salary obligations.

Observers argue that such practices not only undermine professional standards but also damage the credibility of African football administrations. 

Analysts further warn that persistent financial instability could deter top managerial talents from accepting roles on the continent.

The Libyan federation has yet to provide a clear timeline for the settlement of the outstanding wages, leaving uncertainty over when the matter will be resolved.
