Former Senegal national football team captain Lamine Sané has been appointed head coach of the country’s U17 national team ahead of a major continental assignment, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed that the former defender will take charge of the youth side as they prepare for the upcoming Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

Sané’s immediate task will be to lead the young Teranga Lions at the tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco from May 13 to June 2.

The appointment marks a significant step in Sané’s transition into coaching, with expectations high that his experience at the highest level of international football will help nurture the next generation of Senegalese talent.

Senegal will be aiming to make a strong impression at the competition as they continue their reputation for producing top-quality players on the African stage.
