Former Super Eagles Striker Acquires NLO Two Slot

Former Nigeria international Benedict Akwuegbu has strengthened his commitment to youth football development after successfully acquiring a slot in the Nationwide League One (NLO) Division Two for his Ben Akwuegbu U-19 FC.

The development is expected to create additional opportunities for young footballers in Plateau State, providing a competitive platform for emerging talents to showcase their abilities and pursue professional careers.

According to an official confirmation letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of NLO Division Two, Dr. Olushola Ogunnowo, Ben Akwuegbu U-19 FC has been approved to take over the slot previously occupied by Great Achievers FC of Enugu ahead of the upcoming league season, which is scheduled to commence next month.

Reacting to the approval, Akwuegbu expressed appreciation to the NLO leadership, particularly Dr. Ogunnowo, for what he described as the transformation and growth witnessed in Nigeria’s third-tier football league.

“I want to specially thank the Chief Operating Officer of NLO Division Two, Dr. Olushola Ogunnowo, who has brought remarkable transformation to the league. I welcome this opportunity and intend to use it to contribute meaningfully to football development in Nigeria by creating more opportunities for young players to realise their dreams,” Akwuegbu said.

The former Super Eagles forward also received a boost from the Plateau State Football Association, which formally acknowledged and endorsed Ben Akwuegbu U-19 FC as an affiliated club.

In a letter signed by the Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association, Dr. Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, the association commended Akwuegbu for his sustained contributions to football development in the state and expressed support for the club’s participation in the league.

Responding to the endorsement, Akwuegbu thanked the Plateau FA chairman, describing him as a driving force behind the recent growth and development of football in the state.

With the latest acquisition, Ben Akwuegbu FC will continue to compete in NLO Division One, while Ben Akwuegbu U-19 FC is set to begin life in NLO Division Two when the new season kicks off next month.

The move marks another significant step in Akwuegbu’s efforts to nurture young talents and expand the football development structure in Plateau State and beyond.
