From 6,000 to 15,000 Seats: Osogbo Stadium’s Ambitious Upgrade

The ongoing reconstruction of the Osogbo Township Stadium is progressing steadily, with project officials expressing confidence that the upgraded facility will be delivered within schedule.

Project Manager, Architect John Ewule of Maxwell International Venture, gave the assurance on Tuesday following an inspection visit by Osun State Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi.

Ewule stated that key components of the project are beginning to take shape, noting that work on the football pitch is nearing completion while other sections of the facility continue to advance simultaneously.

“We intend to deliver the football pitch soon, even as work continues across other sections. There will be visible and significant progress in the coming weeks,” he said.

He added that favourable weather conditions and sustained support from the Osun State Government would be critical to meeting and possibly exceeding expectations.

Addressing earlier delays, Ewule acknowledged that the project encountered minor setbacks but said these challenges have since been resolved.

“We had some issues to sort out, but those have been overcome. There is now renewed commitment from both the state government and our team, and the pace of work has significantly improved,” he explained.

According to him, efforts are being intensified to accelerate construction, particularly ahead of the rainy season, with priority placed on completing foundational work.

Ewule also expressed optimism that the stadium’s full structure will soon become more visible, especially as work progresses on expanding the stands and roofing the facility.

Beyond the main bowl, the project includes additional infrastructure such as an indoor sports hall, athlete hostels, and practice pitches, all of which are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Upon completion, the stadium’s seating capacity will increase from 6,000 to 15,000. The hostel facilities will provide over 50 bed spaces, alongside 30 rooms designed to accommodate two occupants each. Additional accommodation is also being planned for junior athletes.
