Fulham Increase Bid For Super Eagles Defender As Trabzonspor Demand More
By Niyi Busari
Premier League side Fulham have intensified their pursuit of Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu by submitting an improved transfer offer worth a total of €28 million, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The latest proposal consists of a guaranteed €25 million fee, with a further €3 million tied to performance-related bonuses. The offer represents a significant increase from Fulham's initial €20 million bid, which was rejected by Turkish club Trabzonspor.
Despite Fulham's renewed approach, Trabzonspor are understood to be standing firm on their valuation of the Nigerian international. The Turkish side reportedly values Nwaiwu between €30 million and €35 million and is unwilling to sanction a transfer below that price.
The improved bid highlights Fulham's determination to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new Premier League season, with Nwaiwu emerging as one of the club's priority defensive targets during the current transfer window.
Nwaiwu has attracted growing interest following a series of impressive performances at club level, where his composure in possession, physical presence, tactical awareness and versatility across the backline have earned widespread praise. His consistent displays have also strengthened his reputation within the Super Eagles setup, making him one of Nigeria's most highly rated defenders in Europe.
Negotiations between the two clubs are expected to continue in the coming days as Fulham attempt to bridge the gap between their latest offer and Trabzonspor's asking price. While no agreement has yet been reached, discussions remain ongoing, with the Premier League club hopeful of finding a compromise before the transfer window progresses.
Should the move materialise, it would represent one of the most significant transfer deals involving a Nigerian defender in recent years and further underline the growing demand for Super Eagles talent across Europe's top leagues.
