The family of Nigerian international footballer Samuel Chukwueze has announced the funeral arrangements for his late mother, Prophetess (Dr.) Mrs. Serah Chinyere Chukwueze (née Onyegbule), who died at the age of 59, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to details released by the family, the late matriarch will be buried on Friday, May 29, 2026, in Umuahia, Abia State, following a series of funeral rites organised to celebrate her life and legacy.

Mrs. Chukwueze’s death earlier this year drew widespread sympathy from across Nigeria’s football community, with tributes pouring in from fans, football administrators, political leaders and well-wishers.

The Nigeria Football Federation had earlier described her as a strong pillar in the life and career of the Super Eagles winger, acknowledging the significant role she played in supporting her son’s rise to professional football.

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also extended condolences to the Chukwueze family following the announcement of her passing in January, describing the loss as painful and praying for strength and comfort for the family during the mourning period.

The funeral ceremony in Umuahia is expected to attract family members, friends, football personalities, supporters and dignitaries who will gather to pay their final respects to the late Prophetess Serah Chinyere Chukwueze.

For many admirers of Samuel Chukwueze, the death of his mother remains deeply emotional, particularly given the football star’s consistent acknowledgement of the vital role his family played in shaping both his football career and personal life.
