Organisers of the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone have officially revealed the medals set to be awarded at the global competition scheduled for May 2–3, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The medals are designed to reflect Botswana’s national identity and heritage, incorporating natural diamonds sourced locally as part of the country’s celebration of 60 years of independence.
Each medal features 120 Botswana-sourced diamonds embedded at its centre, underscoring the nation’s status as one of the world’s leading diamond producers.
The design also integrates key cultural and national symbols, including the Mohembo Bridge, along with patterns inspired by elephant tusks and zebra stripes elements synonymous with Botswana’s wildlife and cultural landscape.
The unveiling represents a key milestone in the build-up to the championship, as organisers aim to present athletes with a prize that is both visually distinctive and deeply rooted in the host nation’s identity.
