German Bundesliga Side Ponder Position Change For Super Eagles Defender
Sampson Adedeji
German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen manager Daniel Thioune is considering a positional switch for Super Eagles defender Felix Agu, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Agu, who has been sidelined for several months due to injury, made his return to action on Friday featuring in a U23 fixture, as the coaching staff weigh up plans for his reintegration into the first team.
Speaking on the defender’s versatility, Thioune revealed that the club has been experimenting with different roles for the player.
“We’ve experimented a lot with Felix because I know how versatile he is and where he can bring quality to the team,” Thioune was quoted by Deichstube.
The Bremen boss further disclosed that Agu was recently deployed in a more advanced role during a friendly match.
“We’re considering exactly that. He played on the left wing in the friendly because I believe it can work,” he added.
Thioune also stressed that Agu’s fitness will ultimately determine both his involvement and position in the squad moving forward.
“If he’s fit and at 100 percent, then in my opinion he belongs on the pitch. Now we have to decide where we’ll put him, but we won’t know that until Saturday,” he said.
Agu’s potential positional change could offer Werder Bremen additional tactical flexibility as they look to strengthen their squad options for the remainder of the season.
