The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has outlined a busy 2026-27 competition calendar, with Ghana, Egypt, Senegal, Morocco and South Africa set to host major continental tournaments across senior, youth, futsal and beach soccer categories, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The updated calendar is designed to provide greater certainty for CAF’s Member Associations, commercial partners, broadcasters and supporters while strengthening existing competitions and creating new opportunities across African football.

The flagship event on the calendar will be the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2027, which is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027. Qualification for the tournament is set to begin in September 2026.

South Africa to Host CAF Super Cup

South Africa will stage the CAF Super Cup, with the clash between CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns and CAF Confederation Cup holders USM Alger scheduled for November 8, 2026, in Tshwane.

The match will kick off at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT) and will bring together the winners of Africa’s two premier club competitions.

Ghana, Morocco and Egypt Get Youth Tournaments

Youth football remains a major component of CAF’s development strategy, with several countries preparing to host key age-group competitions.

Ghana will host the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in February and March 2027, while Morocco will stage the CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations in April and May.

Egypt, meanwhile, has been selected to host the CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations 2027. The tournament will also serve as the qualification competition for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

CAF is also examining the possibility of launching a new Under-17 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as early as 2027, subject to the necessary sporting and organisational requirements being met.

The proposed competition would expand the pathway for young female footballers and form part of CAF’s broader efforts to develop women’s football across the continent.

Morocco, Senegal to Stage Futsal and Beach Soccer Events

Morocco will host the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026 from October 12 to 21, while Senegal is scheduled to stage the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in November.

The two tournaments will further broaden CAF’s international competition offering beyond traditional 11-a-side football.

African Nations League Project Advances

CAF has also made progress on plans for a proposed African Nations League, with the competition format discussed by the CAF Executive Committee.

The proposed tournament is part of the organisation’s wider strategy to increase the number of meaningful international fixtures available to Member Associations while creating a competition with greater commercial appeal.

CAF Interclub Season Set to Begin in September

The 2026-27 CAF interclub season is also taking shape, with the preliminary-round draws for the CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup already completed.

The first-leg matches in both competitions are scheduled for September 4-6, 2026, with the return legs set for September 11-13.

The progress on the 2026-27 calendar represents another step in CAF’s efforts to establish a more stable and predictable schedule for African football.

A clearer calendar will allow Member Associations to plan more effectively, give players greater visibility over their competitive pathways and provide broadcasters, sponsors and supporters with improved certainty around the continent’s major football events.
