Ghana Set Up Nigeria Clash After Beating Benin in WAFU B U20 Opener

 Ghana’s Black Princesses will face archrivals Nigeria’s Falconets in their next match at the 2025 WAFU B U20 Women’s Championship after securing a commanding victory over Benin Republic in their tournament opener, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Ghanaian side began their campaign in strong fashion, defeating hosts, Benin Republic 2-0 on Friday to take an early lead, setting up a high-stakes encounter with Nigeria, one of the tournament favorites.

The match between Ghana and Nigeria is expected to rekindle one of West Africa’s fiercest rivalries, as both nations continue their pursuit of regional dominance and qualification for next year’s U20 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Head coach Yusif Basigi praised his team’s performance against Benin but urged focus ahead of the showdown with the Falconets, who have maintained an impressive record at youth level across the continent.

Nigeria, coached by Moses Aduku will enter the clash as defending champions and unbeaten in their last 10 matches at the WAFU B U20 level.

The Ghana–Nigeria encounter is scheduled to take place later today (Saturday 8th November, 2025) with the winner likely to take control of the group standings and secure an early path to the semifinals.

The regional tournament which runs from November 7-12 , has been trimmed to only three nations (Nigeria, Benin Republic and Ghana) after late withdrawal of Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.

The organizers adopted a round-robin format, meaning each team will play others twice. The side with most points at the end of the fixtures will be crowned champions.
