Ghana has been selected to host the 2027 edition of CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, marking the tournament’s return to West Africa, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This signals Ghana’s first time hosting the competition since 1999, reinforcing the country’s longstanding role in the development of youth football on the continent.

While the senior Africa Cup of Nations in 2027 is scheduled to take place in East Africa during June and July, the dates for the U-20 tournament in Ghana have yet to be confirmed.

Attention remains on the most recent edition of the competition, held in 2025, where South Africa secured their first-ever U-20 continental title. They defeated Morocco 1-0 in a tightly contested final at Cairo’s June 30 Stadium.

The decisive moment came in the 70th minute, when Gomolemo Kekana produced a superb right-footed strike from outside the penalty area, curling the ball into the top corner to seal victory. The win was historic for South Africa, as it marked their first triumph over North African opposition in the tournament.

Nigeria continues to hold the record as the most successful nation in the history of the competition, with seven titles to their name.

Since 2021, the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations has featured an expanded format involving 12 teams, reflecting the Confederation of African Football’s commitment to increasing competitiveness and opportunities for emerging talent across the continent.
