Nigeria's Golden Eaglets suffered a 3-2 defeat to Tanzania's Serengeti Boys in their opening match of the four-nation U-17 invitational tournament in China, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The closely contested encounter saw Tanzania edge the five-goal thriller to secure all three points and make a winning start to the competition, while Nigeria was left to reflect on a spirited performance that ultimately fell short.

The Golden Eaglets will now turn their attention to their second group fixture against Australia on Wednesday, where they will be looking to bounce back and keep their hopes alive in the tournament.

Earlier, Tanzania's U-17 national team, the Serengeti Boys, arrived in China well-prepared for the competition and delivered a strong performance in their opening outing against Nigeria to claim a hard-fought victory.
