President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has firmly denied allegations that he interferes with player selection by imposing players on national team coaches, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The release of the Super Eagles’ final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations has sparked widespread debate and criticism among fans, media practitioners and other football stakeholders.

However, Gusau has dismissed claims that the federation influences technical decisions regarding team selection.

Speaking during an interview on Eagles FM Radio, the NFF boss insisted that coaches are given full autonomy to choose their squads without external pressure from the federation.

“I have never told any coach, for any of our national teams, any player that they should select,” Gusau said.

He further stressed that the NFF respects the independence of the technical crew and only provides the necessary support to ensure the teams are well prepared for international competitions.

Gusau’s comments come amid ongoing scrutiny of the Super Eagles squad list, with several notable omissions and inclusions continuing to fuel public debate ahead of the tournament.
