Ibadin Laments World Championship Miss, Vows Stronger Return

Middle-distance runner Edose Ibadin has expressed disappointment after missing out on an automatic qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, but vowed to come back stronger, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The qualification window closed on Sunday, with Ibadin making his final attempt a day earlier in the men’s 800m.

Unfortunately, he fell short of the required 1:44.50 mark. “Couldn’t get the job done, no Tokyo for me. I’ll bounce back hard, though,” Ibadin wrote on X.

The 32-year-old, who holds Nigeria’s national record in the 800m with a time of 1:44.65 set in July 2023 at the Thomas O. Berg Track in Washington, DC, has a season’s best of 1:45.82, recorded earlier this month at the Oregon Track Club All-Comers in Eugene, Oregon.

Ibadin made his Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games, finishing seventh in his repechage heat with a time of 1:49.09, which was not enough to advance.

He also represented Nigeria at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
