Ilechukwu Urges Focus As Rangers Stay in Title Hunt

Technical adviser Fidelis Ilechukwu has played down expectations surrounding Rangers International FC in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League title race, insisting that the team is not under pressure to secure the championship this season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The eight-time champions currently occupy second place on the league table, trailing leaders Rivers United FC by a single point. Other sides, including Ikorodu City FC and Nasarawa United FC, remain in contention in what has become a tightly contested campaign.

Despite Rangers’ strong position, Ilechukwu emphasized that the club’s management has not imposed undue pressure on the technical crew or players to deliver the title at all costs.

“My job won’t be under threat if we don’t win the title this season. If you look at the team and the management, we don’t put anybody under pressure to deliver,” he said in remarks published by the club’s media.

While acknowledging that a second-place finish would still represent a respectable outcome, the coach maintained that Rangers are determined to compete until the end of the season.

“A second-place finish is a success for Rangers, but we don’t want to accept that. We have what it takes to fight until the end,” he added.

Ilechukwu also pointed to the unpredictable nature of the league, noting that the race for the top positions remains open.

“At the moment, it is difficult to determine which teams will finish in the top three because the league is tight and competitive. However, we have the capacity to finish strongly.”

With only a handful of fixtures remaining, Rangers remain firmly in the hunt as the NPFL title race intensifies.
