The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is reportedly exploring the possibility of appointing former Barcelona and Spain legend Andrés Iniesta to a senior technical role, a move that would underscore Morocco’s growing ambition to embed world-class football expertise into its long-term development strategy, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to multiple reports, including from Spanish outlets AS and Mundo Deportivo, as well as international platforms such as The Athletic and beIN Sports, discussions have taken place between Moroccan football authorities and the 41-year-old World Cup winner.

Iniesta was present at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat as an honoured guest of the FRMF, where Senegal edged hosts Morocco 1–0 in a closely fought encounter. His invitation is widely believed to be linked to ongoing talks regarding a potential role within Morocco’s football structure.

While the precise nature of the position under consideration has not been finalised, sources indicate that the federation is weighing options ranging from technical director to a senior advisory role focused on youth development. Any appointment would be designed to leverage Iniesta’s vast experience at the highest levels of the game, rather than placing him in an immediate coaching role.

Morocco’s interest in the former midfield maestro comes amid a broader football renaissance that has gathered momentum since the Atlas Lions’ historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
