Sampson Adedeji
Super Falcons continued their build-up to major international assignments with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses in an international friendly match on Friday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The nine-time African champions got off to a strong start at the Ikenne venue, taking the lead in the 31st minute through star forward Asisat Oshoala, who confidently dispatched a penalty to give the hosts a deserved advantage.
Nigeria extended their lead before halftime when Toni Payne found the net, putting the Super Falcons in firm control heading into the break.
Senegal came out more determined after the interval and mounted sustained pressure as the game wore on.
The visitors’ persistence was eventually rewarded with a late goal that narrowed the scoreline to 2-1.
Despite a nervy finish, the Super Falcons stood firm to secure the win and maintain their positive momentum.
The two teams will renew hostilities in a second friendly match on Monday at the same venue in Ikenne.
