Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his delight after becoming the first Nigerian player to make 300 appearances in the English Premier League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Iwobi achieved the remarkable milestone during Fulham’s 2–1 loss to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Speaking to the club’s official website after the game, the 29-year-old described the feat as a major honour in his career.
“It’s amazing. It’s a big achievement to lead that, with the likes of Shola Ameobi and even my uncle [Jay-Jay Okocha] who have participated in the Premier League.
It’s an honour, but I’m not done yet I’m going to keep on going and hopefully keep the record going.”
Iwobi now ranks as the fifth African player with the most Premier League appearances, behind Kolo Touré (353), Mohamed Salah (309), Wilfried Zaha (309), and Jordan Ayew (305).
