Iwobi Returns As Calvin Bassey Marks 100th Fulham Appearance in Draw Against Wolves

Calvin Bassey celebrated his 100th appearance for Fulham FC as the London side played out a 1-1 draw against [Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Molineux Stadium, BSNSports.com.ng reports 

The encounter also marked the return of fellow Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, who featured again after several weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

Although the result provided little encouragement for Fulham’s fading hopes of securing European qualification, the occasion carried personal significance for Bassey, whose performances have established him as a key figure in Marco Silva’s squad since his arrival from AFC Ajaxin 2023.

The defender has earned praise this season for his consistency, defensive awareness and versatility across Fulham’s backline, successfully rebuilding his reputation after a difficult spell in the Netherlands.

Wolves began the match strongly in front of their home supporters and took the lead in the 25th minute through Mateus Mane, who fired past goalkeeper Bernd Leno after being set up by Hwang Hee-chan.

The hosts continued to threaten, with Adam Armstrong hitting the post while Yerson Mosquera created additional danger from set pieces as Wolves searched for a second goal.

Fulham gradually settled into the game, aided by Iwobi’s influence in midfield as the visitors regained possession and composure.

Their pressure eventually paid off in first-half stoppage time when a VAR review awarded Fulham a penalty. United States international Antonee Robinson calmly converted from the spot to restore parity before halftime.

The second half featured more Nigerian representation as Samuel Chukwueze was introduced for Fulham to provide attacking impetus, while Wolves responded with the introduction of Tolu Arokodare.

Both sides pushed for a late winner, but goalkeepers José Sá and Bernd Leno produced crucial saves to ensure the points were shared.

While the draw did little to alter Fulham’s league position, the afternoon highlighted Bassey’s growing importance at the club and offered encouragement with Iwobi’s successful return ahead of the final match of the season.
