Kigali Hosts Key FIFA Programme To Strengthen African Coaching Standards

Kigali has taken centre stage in African football development this week as the Rwandan capital hosts the FIFA Coach Educators Development Pathway Assessment, a strategic initiative aimed at elevating coaching standards across the continent, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The week-long programme has brought together 19 coach educators and technical leaders from nine Member Associations, further cementing Rwanda’s growing reputation as a host of major international football events.

Delegates are participating from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Mauritius and South Sudan, highlighting FIFA’s continued commitment to strengthening technical expertise and institutional capacity within African football.

The assessment is part of FIFA’s global framework designed to professionalise the role of coach educators within its Member Associations. Through the introduction of modern methodologies, advanced evaluation tools and harmonised training standards, the initiative seeks to ensure that best practices at elite level cascade effectively through grassroots, youth and senior football structures.

Addressing participants during the opening session in Kigali, Patrice Ndagijimana, President of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), welcomed delegates and underscored the significance of Rwanda hosting such a high-level technical programme.

He described the event as a critical step toward strengthening coaching education systems across Africa and building sustainable football development models. Ndagijimana also urged participants to seize the opportunity to redefine perceptions of African coaching and to position themselves as agents of long-term transformation within their respective associations.

The diversity of participating nations not only reflects FIFA’s expansive continental outreach but also reinforces Kigali’s emerging role as a strategic platform for football development dialogue in Africa.

As the assessment continues, organisers anticipate a lasting impact through a stronger network of certified coach educators and enhanced technical standards across Member Associations—an important stride in Africa’s pursuit of football excellence driven from within.
