The stage is set in Lagos for the grand finale of the 2025 Zenith Bank/Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) National Women’s Basketball League, as the top eight teams converge for the Final Eight showdown.
All qualified teams are expected to arrive in Lagos today, Monday, ahead of the tournament tip-off on Tuesday, September 16. The event will run through Saturday, September 20, at the Basketball Courts of the National Stadium, Surulere.
According to the NBBF's official schedule, eight teams—four each from the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences—will battle for the coveted national title. The participating teams include:
The Titans
Air Warriors
Royal Aces
Nigeria Customs
First Bank
MFM (Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries)
Dolphins
Bayelsa Whales
Chairperson of the 2025 Zenith Women’s Basketball League, Perpetua Clement, expressed confidence in the federation’s preparedness to deliver a seamless competition.
“We expect a big spectacle in Lagos, and the NBBF is ready,” Clement said, noting that the Musa Kida-led administration has been working tirelessly to ensure all logistics are in place for a successful Final Eight.
Meanwhile, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, Group Managing Director of title sponsors Zenith Bank, lauded the league's development and its impact on women's basketball in Nigeria.
“We are proud of the progress the league has made over the years. It has become a pipeline for talent, producing stars who have gone on to shine consistently on the African stage. Some of the players in our national team, D’Tigress, began their journey right here in this league,” Umeoji said.
Based on results from the first and second phases of the competition, basketball fans can expect a fiercely contested tournament. Defending champions MFM and former champions First Bank are among the favorites, while dark horses like The Titans may yet disrupt the established order.
