League Faces Suspension For AFCON Competition
Sampson Adedeji
The Benin national football championships, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, have been temporarily suspended to allow for the participation of the Leopards in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The suspension forms part of the international break set aside for national team activities, ensuring that players selected for the Leopards are fully available for the continental tournament without domestic league commitments.
According to officials, the pause in the domestic competitions is aimed at supporting the national team’s preparations and campaign at AFCON 2025, while also maintaining the integrity of the league season.
Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 fixtures are expected to resume one week after the conclusion of the national team’s participation in the tournament.
