Nigeria's opening opponents at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Malawi, have unveiled a 32-player provisional squad as preparations intensify for the continental tournament in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Scorchers are scheduled to open their training camp on Monday at Mpira Village in Blantyre, marking the beginning of their final build-up to the competition.

Head coach Lovemore Fazili has retained the core of the squad that has represented Malawi throughout the year, opting for continuity as the team prepares for its historic maiden appearance at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Malawi have been drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt in what promises to be one of the tournament's most competitive groups.

The Scorchers will begin their campaign against the Super Falcons of Nigeria on Monday, 28 July 2026, at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. The fixture will mark Malawi's first-ever match at the WAFCON finals as they seek to make an immediate impact on the continental stage.

For Nigeria, the encounter presents the first step in their quest to defend the African title, while Malawi will be eager to announce themselves in their tournament debut against the continent's most successful women's national team.
