Manuel Akanji Reveals Why His Super Eagles Badge Tattoo
Former Manchester City defender, Manuel Akanji takes immense pride in his Nigerian roots, BSNSports.com.ng has sourced.
Akanji made a decisive move to join Inter on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy from Manchester City during the summer transfer window.
In a recent interview with Inter TV, he shared insights about his first few weeks in Milan. At 30 years old, the defender was born in Wiesendangen, Switzerland, to a Swiss mother and a Nigerian father.
He proudly sports an eagle tattoo on his left arm as a powerful tribute to his Nigerian heritage.
“This is the eagle, representing the Nigerian national team, with a football underneath. It’s a symbol that I carry with me,” he stated confidently.
“While I represent the Swiss national team, my Nigerian identity remains a significant part of who I am. I had to make a choice, but my Nigerian heritage continues to resonate deeply with me. It’s been a while since I last visited Nigeria.
"Travelling back is a challenge due to the lack of breaks in winter, and summer brings the rainy season, making it uncertain.
"However, during my youth, I was fortunate enough to visit three or four times."
