Moroccan Club Consider FIFA, CAF, Legal Actions After Coach Quits for Burkina Faso Role

Moroccan top-flight club Hassania Agadir have begun legal proceedings against head coach Amir Abdou after he reportedly terminated his contract unilaterally to accept the role of head coach of the Burkina Faso national football team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Botola Pro side confirmed that Abdou informed the club of his decision via email despite having a contract that still had approximately one-and-a-half seasons remaining, including an option for extension.

In an official statement released by the club, Hassania Agadir said it received the termination notice on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, through its official email channel. The club described the decision as unilateral and indicated that it would pursue all available regulatory avenues to protect its interests.

“Hassania Agadir announces that it received, yesterday Tuesday, March 3, 2026, a message from coach Amir Abdou via the club’s official email, in which he informed of his decision to unilaterally terminate his contract with the club,” the statement read.

The club added that it will “immediately apply all competent legal and organizational procedures, in accordance with the regulations in force,” to safeguard its rights, interests and reputation. The statement also emphasized the club’s intention to maintain stability and reassure its supporters while the matter is addressed.

The Moroccan side is expected to seek compensation through the relevant governing bodies, including FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The dispute follows Abdou’s appointment as head coach of Burkina Faso on Sunday, March 1, replacing Brama Traoré after the Stallions’ early exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

At the time of the development, Hassania Agadir sit ninth in the Botola Pro standings with 15 points from 14 matches, three points above the relegation zone.
