Morocco moved to the top of Group C after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Brazil at MetLife Stadium, with FIFA's fair play regulations proving decisive in separating the two sides in the standings, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Atlas Lions took the lead in the 21st minute through Ismael Saibari, who finished off an impressive attacking move to put the North Africans in front. Brazil responded before halftime, with Vinícius Júnior restoring parity in the 31st minute to ensure the points were shared.

The result left both teams level on points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head record, forcing FIFA's tiebreaking criteria to come into effect.

Under FIFA regulations, when teams cannot be separated by conventional sporting criteria, disciplinary records are considered through the fair play ranking system. Morocco gained the advantage after completing the match without receiving a single booking.

Brazil, by contrast, saw Casemiro and Roger Ibañez cautioned during the first half, leaving the Seleção with an inferior disciplinary record and placing them behind Morocco in the group table.

As a result, the Atlas Lions occupy first place in Group C despite the stalemate, highlighting the significance of maintaining discipline in tightly contested tournament groups.
