NFF Election: Electoral Committee Begins Final Checks On Nomination Forms

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Electoral Committee has commenced the scrutiny of nomination forms submitted by candidates seeking election into the federation’s Executive Committee, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The committee met on Saturday and Sunday to review the documents submitted by aspirants ahead of the NFF Elective Congress scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Candidates whose submissions contain irregularities are expected to be formally notified and given an opportunity to correct the identified issues within the stipulated period.

The Electoral Committee is responsible for supervising the electoral process in accordance with the NFF Statutes and Electoral Code.

Screening process enters key phase

Under the electoral timetable, the sale of nomination forms and publication of the election guidelines began on August 1, while the deadline for submitting completed forms was August 12.

The notification period for candidates with irregularities in their submissions runs from August 13 to 19. Candidates will then have from August 20 to 27 to address and correct the identified issues.

Formal screening of candidates is scheduled for August 27 to 30.

The provisional list of cleared candidates will be published on August 31. Aspirants who are disqualified during the screening process will have from September 1 to 3 to lodge appeals.

The Electoral Committee is expected to determine the appeals between September 4 and 10, after which the final list of cleared candidates will be published between September 11 and 12.

The delegates’ list is scheduled for publication on September 13.

Campaigns to begin after final clearance

Candidates who successfully clear the screening and appeals process will be permitted to campaign from September 14 to 24.

The election will then take place on September 27 in Lafia, where delegates will elect members of the NFF Executive Committee for the next four-year term.

The election date was moved from September 26 to September 27 following the rescheduling of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying opener against Madagascar to September 25. The NFF said the change was necessary to allow candidates attending the Super Eagles’ match sufficient time to travel to Lafia for the Elective Congress.

The NFF had earlier approved Lafia as the venue for the 2026 Elective Congress at its Extraordinary General Assembly in March.

The electoral process will conclude with the deadline for submitting election petitions on September 30.

The NFF Electoral Committee was inaugurated in April alongside the Electoral Appeals Committee to oversee the conduct of the elections and adjudicate complaints, petitions and appeals arising from the process.
