NFF Inaugurates Electoral Committees, Pledges Credible 2026 Elections

The Nigeria Football Federation has inaugurated its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee ahead of the 2026–2030 Executive Committee elections, with officials pledging to deliver a transparent and credible process, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday at the federation’s secretariat in Abuja, where NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau charged committee members to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, impartiality and diligence.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, Matthew Burka’a assured stakeholders that the electoral process would meet the highest standards of fairness and credibility. He emphasized that the assignment would be handled with utmost seriousness, with the aim of setting a benchmark for future elections within Nigerian football and beyond.

“We will approach this task with the seriousness it deserves,” Burka’a said. “On behalf of all members, we assure the NFF, football stakeholders and the global community that the election will be free, fair, credible and widely accepted.”

He acknowledged the level of scrutiny from global football governing bodies such as FIFA and Confederation of African Football, as well as from the domestic football community, adding that the committees are committed to delivering what he described as “the best-ever” NFF elections.

Gusau announced that the Electoral Committee will be chaired by Burka’a, alongside members including Babagoni Grema, Bature Musa, Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie and Olugbenga Omole, with Arinze Azubuike Anughele and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi serving as alternate members.

The Electoral Appeals Committee will be headed by C. J. Aneke, alongside Benjamin Sati and Abdulmalik Awwal. Alternate members include Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam.

In line with provisions of the NFF Statutes, the federation’s General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, will serve as secretary to both committees.

The NFF also confirmed that elections into its Executive Committee will be held in Lafia on September 26.

Dignitaries present at the event included Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Philip Shaibu; NFF First Vice President Felix Anyansi-Agwu; Executive Committee members Silas Agara and George Aluo; as well as senior management and staff of the federation.
