NFF Orders Super Falcons Technical Crew To Resign With Immediate Effect

By Our Reporter

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee has directed the Super Falcons’ technical crew to step down with immediate effect following the team’s disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign and failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The federation announced the decision on Monday in a brief statement published on its official social media platforms.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect.”

The directive effectively ends the current technical arrangement of the senior women’s national team and comes after Nigeria suffered a historic setback by failing to secure qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The Super Falcons entered the WAFCON campaign as one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams but were unable to claim a place at the global tournament. Nigeria had qualified for every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the competition began in 1991.

The latest development follows mounting calls for a comprehensive review of the team’s technical direction, with scrutiny expected to focus on tactical decisions, squad selection, player management and the overall approach to the national team.

It is not yet clear whether the NFF’s directive covers every member of the technical crew or whether some officials could be retained in other roles. The federation has also not announced an interim coaching arrangement or named a successor.

The NFF now faces the task of establishing a new technical structure for the Super Falcons, with little time to waste as attention turns to the team’s next major assignment.

Nigeria’s qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games is scheduled to begin in October 2026, when the Super Falcons are expected to face Comoros.

The federation will therefore be under pressure to resolve the coaching situation quickly and ensure the team has adequate preparation ahead of the Olympic qualifiers. A prolonged leadership vacuum could further complicate efforts to rebuild the side following one of the most significant disappointments in its recent history.

Further details are expected from the NFF regarding the reasons for the decision, the composition of an interim technical team and the federation’s plans for the Super Falcons going forward.
