NFF President Debunks Chelle Departure Rumour

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Ibrahim Gusau, has dismissed reports suggesting that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will leave his position after the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Amid growing speculation about the coach’s future and the pressure of the upcoming decisive fixtures, Gusau clarified Chelle’s contract terms and reaffirmed the federation’s confidence in his leadership.

“He has a two-year contract with us, so nobody should think he is only here to assist for the World Cup,” Gusau said.

“His deal covers the World Cup qualifying matches as well as the Africa Cup of Nations.”

The NFF boss emphasized that the national team remains focused on its objectives and praised Chelle’s early impact since taking charge.

“We have crossed the first hurdle, and now we move into the playoffs in November. After that, we go for the Nations Cup and see how things progress,” he continued.

“A lot of Nigerians doubted why we appointed him, but thank God he has shown his capability to manage the national team. Our responsibility now is to give him all the support he needs to perform his duties and deliver the results the country expects.”

Chelle led the Super Eagles to the final round of the World Cup playoffs after steady performances in the qualifying series, and the NFF’s latest statement appears aimed at quelling any distractions ahead of the crucial matches.
