NFF To Take Coaching Courses Closer To States And Local Governments

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has reiterated the federation’s commitment to strengthening grassroots football development through expanded and more accessible coaching education programmes across the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the CAF B-Licence Refresher Course organised by the NFF, Gusau said the federation is determined to make coaching education available at state, zonal and local government levels, eliminating the need for coaches to travel long distances to participate in training programmes.

According to the NFF president, significant progress has been made in coaching education since the current administration assumed office, citing the organisation of several coaching courses and Nigeria’s return to the CAF A-Licence convention.

“When we came into office, the situation was not particularly encouraging with regard to coaching education. Today, there is clear evidence of progress through the numerous courses conducted and our return to the CAF A-Licence convention,” Gusau said.

He added that the federation remains committed to creating an enabling environment that supports the development of coaches and players alike.

Addressing concerns raised by participants regarding outstanding certificates for coaches who completed the CAF B-Licence course in previous years, Gusau assured stakeholders that the NFF is working closely with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ensure all eligible coaches receive their certification.

The NFF president also revealed that the federation now has a sufficient number of qualified instructors to deliver CAF B-Licence programmes across the country.

“You can remain in your state and have access to the course. We must continue to educate our grassroots coaches because that is the foundation for the holistic development of football in Nigeria,” he said.

Gusau noted that coaching education is becoming increasingly scientific and technical, making continuous learning essential for coaches seeking to remain relevant in the modern game. While CAF regulations limit the number of participants eligible for the A-Licence programme, he pledged that the federation would ensure coaches at all levels benefit from ongoing development initiatives.

A total of 50 coaches participated in the four-day refresher programme, which commenced on Sunday and was conducted in two streams.

The closing ceremony was attended by NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi; NFF Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen; Head of Coaching Education, Dr Terry Eguaoje; Director of Media and Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire; Coach Abdulrafiu Yusuf; and President of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Ladan Bosso.
