NOC To Host Final Module of IOC Advanced Sport Management Course in Ilorin

The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) will host the final module of the 2024/2025 IOC/NOC Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) from Tuesday, October 28 to Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The closing session marks the culmination of a year-long intensive programme designed to strengthen leadership and governance capacity within Nigeria’s sports system. No fewer than 21 top sports administrators will defend their final theses during the session, signaling the completion of the globally recognized IOC training cycle.

The Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC), a flagship initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) delivered through Olympic Solidarity in collaboration with the NOC, aims to equip sports managers with modern administrative skills and strategic tools to drive sustainable development within their organizations.

Now in its seventh edition, the programme began with 25 participants drawn from diverse sectors including state sports councils, tertiary institutions, and paramilitary organizations. It blends in-person and virtual sessions over 12 months and is based on the IOC’s Managing Olympic Sport Organisations manual.

The final module will be led by IOC-certified Course Directors, Prof. Clement Fasan and Dr. Jonathan Dyagas, with additional contributions from invited external experts.

NOC President, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, is expected to declare the session open, reaffirming the Committee’s dedication to advancing sports governance in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by Tony Nezianya, the NOC’s Public Relations Officer, the Committee emphasized its commitment to developing a new generation of competent, world-class sports administrators capable of upholding the IOC’s global standards of excellence, transparency, and accountability.

 “The Nigerian Olympic Committee remains focused on building institutional capacity and promoting best practices in sports management,” the statement read. “This course continues to be a cornerstone in our efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s sports governance system.”

The successful completion of this module will produce a new cohort of trained sports leaders ready to implement international standards across Nigeria’s sporting institutions.
