By Our Reporter
Enyimba FC have been charged and sanctioned for multiple breaches of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Framework and Rules following incidents that occurred during their Matchday 21 fixture against Barau FC on January 18, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to the NPFL, the Aba-based club failed to provide adequate and effective security at the match, allowing unauthorised individuals to gain access to restricted areas of the stadium.
The league further stated that Enyimba did not ensure the proper conduct of their supporters, resulting in the harassment of match officials. Following the final whistle, supporters also invaded restricted zones and held the officials hostage for several hours.
The NPFL added that the misconduct led to the loss of personal belongings belonging to the match officials, an incident deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As a result of the infractions, Enyimba have been fined a total of ₦6 million. The club was fined ₦2 million for failing to provide adequate security and ₦1 million for encroachment into restricted areas. Additional fines of ₦1 million each were imposed for supporter misconduct and for holding match officials hostage, bringing the total to ₦2 million under those charges.
In addition to the financial penalties, Enyimba have been ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors.
The club has been given 48 hours from the date of the notice to file an appeal against the sanctions.
