NPFL: Kanu Targets League Glory With Enyimba

Enyimba chairman and former African Footballer of the Year, Nwankwo Kanu, has reaffirmed the club’s ambition to reclaim the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title as they begin their 2025/26 campaign against newcomers Barau FC on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The People’s Elephant endured a disappointing outing last season, finishing sixth with 55 points and missing out on a continental ticket an outcome far below their standards.
Despite their pedigree, the Aba giants have also struggled to make an impact on the continental stage in recent years.
Kanu, who is entering his third season at the helm, insisted that the club has reset its focus and strengthened with the sole aim of winning silverware.
“We have revamped this team for one purpose to win. Every player, whether new or old, must give their best in every match, because when the club shines, it also elevates your own career and reputation,” Kanu said.
Enyimba recently confirmed the departure of 22 players but are yet to unveil their full list of new signings.
The nine-time NPFL champions open their season today against Barau FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium, hoping to maintain their dominance over newly-promoted teams.
Enyimba remain Nigeria’s most decorated club, boasting nine league titles and two CAF Champions League trophies.
