NPFL Match Day 3 Review: Remo Stars Secure Home Win As Ikorodu City Holds Shooting Stars In South West Derby

Match Day 3 Of The 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) produced thrilling encounters across different centers, with Remo Stars grinding out a narrow home win and Ikorodu City claiming a valuable away point against Shooting Stars in the South West derby, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
At the Remo Stars Stadium in Ogun State Samson Olasupo struck in the 77th minute to hand the hosts a 1-0 win over Wolves.
The victory keeps Remo Stars firmly among the early pacesetters this season. In Ibadan, Shooting Stars (3SC) were held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Ikorodu City.
Sodiq Ibrahim gave 3SC the lead in the 10th minute, but Shola Adelani equalized for Ikorodu City on the stroke of halftime, ensuring the derby spoils were shared.
Elsewhere, Kwara United secured a convincing 2-0 home victory over Kun Khalifat. Johnmark Shirsha broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, before Emeka Kingsley Obiorah sealed the win in the 81st minute.
In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists edged Abia Warriors 1-0, thanks to Jonathan Mairiga’s decisive strike in the 77th minute.
Katsina United also left it late, as Azeez Falolu scored in the 86th minute to hand them a 1-0 win over rivals Kano Pillars in a tense northern derby.
Rangers International impressed at home with a 2-0 win against Plateau United.
Chidozie Iwundu opened scoring in first-half stoppage time, while Chidiebere Nwobodo added a second in the 80th minute to secure all three points for the Flying Antelopes.
In Minna, Niger Tornadoes defeated Bayelsa United 1-0 courtesy of Ismail Sarki’s 27th-minute goal.
Meanwhile, defending champions Enyimba were frustrated by Nasarawa United in Aba, as the match ended goalless despite several missed chances by the People’s Elephant.
Barau FC and Bendel Insurance settled for a 1-1 draw. Alex Oweilayefa gave Bendel Insurance an early lead in the 7th minute, but Yahaya Ibrahim restored parity for the home side just before halftime.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors and Rivers United played out a goalless stalemate, with both teams unable to find the breakthrough despite an open game.
With Match Day 3 concluded, Remo Stars, Rangers, and Kwara United remain strong early contenders, while Ikorodu City continue to prove they are no pushovers in their debut topflight season.
