By Niyi Busari
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced that the first transfer window for the 2026/27 season will run from July 15 to September 14, 2026, as part of a comprehensive calendar released ahead of the new campaign, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The league organisers unveiled the schedule following a meeting with the National Sports Commission (NSC) and other key football stakeholders in Abuja.
According to the calendar, the 2026/27 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off between August 28 and 30, following the completion of several pre-season activities. These include club licensing, settlement of outstanding salary obligations owed to players and coaches, stadium and facility inspections, and compliance checks for all participating clubs.
The first half of the season will conclude with Matchday 19 in December before the league observes a mid-season break from December 23, 2026, to January 6, 2027.
The second transfer window will remain open throughout January 2027, allowing clubs to strengthen their squads before the resumption of the second half of the campaign.
The 38-match league season is expected to conclude on May 30, 2027.
The league calendar also accommodates the President Federation Cup, with state qualifying playoffs slated for early February 2027. The competition will progress through the Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals before reaching its conclusion later in the season.
As part of efforts to maintain a stable and predictable football calendar, the NPFL disclosed that the 2027/28 season is tentatively scheduled to commence between August 27 and 29, 2027.
The calendar also includes orientation programmes for newly promoted clubs as part of the league's preparations for the new season.
