NSC Inaugurates Boards of Sports Federations in Abuja

The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Saturday inaugurated the newly elected boards of over 28 national sports federations, marking the official start of a new four-year administrative cycle for Nigerian sports, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Multipurpose Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, brought to a close the election process that had been conducted across various sports federations in the last few months.

Among the federations inaugurated were wrestling, traditional sports, boxing, tennis, handball, and shooting, golf, judo, cricket, hockey, among others—signaling the beginning of what stakeholders described as a “fresh chapter” for the development of sports in the country.

A New Era for Nigerian Sports

Speaking on behalf of all federation presidents, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, President of the Boxing Federation, pledged renewed commitment and collaboration toward achieving success at international competitions.

He also assured that future transitions would be smooth and transparent.

 “We are optimistic about a bright future for Nigerian sports,” Adeniyi said. “We will work collectively to ensure that the next four years bring progress and better representation for our athletes on the global stage.”

Leadership Commends the Process

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, expressed confidence in the caliber of individuals elected to lead the various federations.

He noted that the boards have the experience and leadership qualities required to elevate Nigerian sports to new heights.

 “I’m impressed with the outcome of the elections and the quality of people that emerged,” Dikko said. “We believe these boards will drive positive change and reposition Nigerian sports for greater success.”

The Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, described the inauguration as the beginning of another important cycle for the country’s sports administration.

“The next four years officially begin today,” he remarked. “It’s a new journey, and we expect every federation to play its part in advancing our sporting excellence.”

Top Sports Officials in Attendance

The event was attended by senior officials of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), led by its president, Engr. Habu Gumel. He was accompanied by Obinna Ogba, First Vice President, and Olumide Oyedeji, Third Vice President.

Their presence underscored the NOC’s support for the new boards and its commitment to working closely with the NSC in preparing athletes for upcoming international competitions.

With the new boards now in place, the NSC emphasized the importance of unity, transparency, and performance-driven leadership to ensure Nigerian sports achieve sustainable growth in the coming years.
