Nasarawa United Knock Out Hosts Katsina United To Reach Gusau/AHLAN Semi-Finals

Nasarawa United booked their place in the semi-finals of the fifth Gusau/AHLAN Preseason Tournament after defeating hosts Katsina United 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Solid Miners held their nerve in a tense quarter-final encounter, converting four of their five spot-kicks to secure victory and continue their preparations ahead of the new season.

Nasarawa United made a fast start and took the lead in the fourth minute through right-back Abubakar Abdullahi.

The visitors maintained their advantage through the opening half, but Katsina United responded strongly after the break and eventually found an equaliser through Abba Musa in the 71st minute.

Neither side could find a decisive goal before the final whistle, sending the contest straight to a penalty shootout.

Nasarawa United proved more composed from the spot, converting four penalties to prevail 4-3 and send the home side out of the tournament.

Ameh stars as Solid Miners advance

Goalkeeper Ameh Godwin played a pivotal role in Nasarawa United’s victory.

The goalkeeper produced important saves during the match before stepping up again during the shootout to help the Solid Miners secure their place in the last four.

His overall performance earned him the Man of the Match award from the tournament organisers.

The victory extends Nasarawa United’s positive run in their preseason campaign and provides another boost ahead of the new season.

Kwara United await in semi-final

Nasarawa United will face Kwara United in the semi-finals on Tuesday, August 18, at 4pm.

Kwara United secured their place in the last four after defeating Niger Tornadoes in their quarter-final encounter.

The Solid Miners will now look to build on their victory over the hosts and take another step towards winning the Gusau/AHLAN Preseason Tournament.
