Nigeria Among Only Three Nations To Attend Every U-20 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria, Brazil and the United States are set to make history by becoming the only three nations to have participated in every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the tournament was inaugurated in 2002, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The trio have featured at every edition of FIFA’s premier global competition for women’s youth football, with the 2026 tournament set to mark the 12th edition of the championship.

Nigeria’s Falconets have been one of the most consistent teams in the history of the competition. The West Africans have twice reached the final, finishing runners-up in 2010 and 2014, while also recording several deep runs at the tournament.

Brazil have likewise been ever-present and remain one of the traditional powers of women’s youth football. The South Americans finished as runners-up in the inaugural 2002 edition and have consistently been among the competitive teams at the tournament.

The United States, meanwhile, won the inaugural title in Canada in 2002 and have remained a regular force in the competition.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup has grown considerably since its debut, providing a major platform for emerging female talents who have gone on to become stars of the international game.

For Nigeria, continued participation is particularly significant as the Falconets remain an important pathway for developing players for the senior Super Falcons.

As the 2026 edition approaches, Nigeria, Brazil and the USA will look to extend their remarkable attendance records while competing for another opportunity to lift the coveted trophy.
