Nigeria Bounce Back With 1–0 Victory, Await Final Group Match Outcome

Nigeria’s U-15 boys kept their hopes of reaching the semifinals alive after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Benin Republic on Tuesday morning in their second group match of the African Schools Football Championship, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The win came as a timely response to Nigeria’s disappointing 4–1 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening game on Monday. Despite the victory, qualification for the semifinals is not yet guaranteed, and the team must now wait for the outcome of the group’s final match between Côte d’Ivoire and Benin Republic.

Nigeria currently sit on three points with a goal difference of –3. Their path to the semifinals depends on the following scenarios:

If Côte d’Ivoire defeat Benin Republic, Nigeria will advance.

If Benin Republic win, they will qualify ahead of Nigeria on goal difference.

If both teams play a draw, Nigeria will progress to the semifinal stage.

The semifinal matches are scheduled for Wednesday, while the losers’ final and championship match will take place on Thursday.

Now in its fourth edition, the African Schools Football Championship previously hosted in Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Nigeria continues to provide a crucial platform for young, school-aged footballers to gain national and international exposure.
