Nigeria's U20 men's national team, the Flying Eagles, will look to secure a place in the final of the WAFU B U20 Championship and book qualification for next year's Africa U20 Cup of Nations when they face hosts Côte d'Ivoire in Wednesday's semi-final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, with a place in Sunday's final and continental qualification at stake.

The Flying Eagles advanced to the last four after finishing second in Group B. Nigeria's campaign suffered a setback in its final group-stage fixture, where the seven-time African champions were beaten 2-0 by Burkina Faso's Young Stallions.

Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire share recent history in the competition. At the 2024 edition in Togo, the Flying Eagles came from behind to defeat the Young Elephants 2-1 in a decisive group-stage match in Lomé. Goals from Clinton Jephta and Kparobo Arierhi secured Nigeria's passage to the semi-finals, with the team eventually lifting the tournament title.

Côte d'Ivoire, however, head into Wednesday's clash in impressive form. The hosts boast a perfect record in this year's tournament, winning all their group matches while scoring seven goals without conceding.

Following the defeat to Burkina Faso, Flying Eagles head coach Abdu Maikaba is expected to make changes to his starting lineup as Nigeria seeks a return to winning ways against the tournament hosts.

Victory would see the Flying Eagles advance to Sunday's final, where they would have the opportunity to defend their WAFU B U20 title. More importantly, a win would secure Nigeria a place at the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, joining hosts Ghana in the continental championship.
