Nigeria’s Female Yellow Greens ended their 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 campaign on a disappointing note, falling 7 runs short against Kenya in Windhoek, Namibia, on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The loss dealt a further blow to Nigeria’s hopes of progressing, as they now face the prospect of starting future World Cup qualifying campaigns from Division 2.
Having finished third in their group and missed out on the semi-finals, the Yellow Greens were left to battle in the placement games.
Against Kenya, however, they came up short, pushing them into the seventh-place classification match against Sierra Leone on Saturday.
Nigeria had travelled to Namibia with high hopes of securing one of the two available tickets to the global qualifiers, but their dream ended after a crucial defeat to Zimbabwe on Wednesday.
While Nigeria is yet to reach a senior men’s or women’s T20 World Cup, the country has made appearances at the U-19 World Cups, highlighting its potential at youth level.
